Natural Filling Mattresses
Natural fillings are used in mattresses for a variety of reasons mainly for durability and breathability, natural fibres dissipate heat quicker than other materials such as memory foam. Some of the most popular natural fillings include cotton, wool and hair.
For added luxury, silk, cashmere and mohair fillings are used in a range of quality mattresses.
Most fillings are added as compacted pads although some premium manufacturers such as Relyon and Somnus who hand make their mattresses, add layers of loose fillings in greater quantities.
It is worth noting that all mattresses with natural fibres require either turning over or rotating regularly, this is to maximise lifespan and help reduce excessive settlement where the body weight compresses the fillings.
