Electric dreams

Whether you are looking for the ultimate in lifestyle comfort and relaxation or something to provide health-related benefits, you might be considering an electric – or adjustable – bed. Adjustable beds move and bend to offer a choice of sitting or lying positions, and they can offer lots of other features too, from adjustable heights to safety features, including bedrails. There is a huge range of electric beds available, but they tend to fall into two main categories: lifestyle beds and profiling beds.
This is the life
If you are after the perfect position for comfort, asleep or awake, a ‘lifestyle’ electric bed might be what you are looking for. These can offer a range of ‘sit-up’ functions to ensure you can find the perfect position to read or watch TV in bed. However, these types of beds generally don’t provide different height options or adjustable sleeping positions. As a rule, these types of beds are aimed at people who want an adjustable bed for comfort and luxury, rather than for health reasons.
Health benefits of a good night’s sleep
The other types of adjustable beds are often known as profiling beds or variable posture beds. These are specially designed for medical or health needs. Or they can help in maintaining an independent life for longer or encouraging a better night’s sleep with a more comfortable sleeping position. Profiling beds offer you increased flexibility, with a variety of positions and features. Profiling beds can be adjusted manually or electrically with a handset, which means you can make the adjustment yourself, from the comfort of your bed.
It’s all about choice
Depending on the type of bed you choose, the accompanying mattress will be sectioned, to allow the bed to be used in the different positions. A two-part adjustable bed allows the upper section to be raised, helping you to sit up to read or watch TV, and making it easier for you to get in and out of bed. The three-part adjustable bed has an additional section from the knee, which helps to prevent you from slipping down the bed. Meanwhile, the four-part adjustable bed also has an additional flat section to sit on. All standard width sizes – from small singles to super king size – are available, and there is also a large selection of adjustable mattresses which include Pocketed springs, Wool, Memory foam, Latex and Medical grade foam.
Features and benefits
Depending on your needs there are a variety of other features available, including height-adjustable beds, handrails, drop-down or bed rails, massage functions and even drawers for storage. Did you know that you are also exempt from paying VAT if you have a disability, chronic condition or physical/mental impairment, where it is deemed the adjustable bed will improve your quality of your life?
